Eating Healthy Foods…..

As you may have noticed there are numerous sites about eating healthy and what the benefits are from eating healthy foods. You can find many of these sites on every search engine. Most of this information is long winded and difficult to understand. Discerning between what is actually beneficial and what hype is can often be difficult. Always consider the source of your information.

Being blessed as a healthy person I must first thank the Lord for getting me thru these 60 years of life without a hitch. Today I stand at 5-10” and weigh 180 lbs, my physique is well toned except for a modest mid-ridge belly which I’m trying to get down with sit-ups.  My overall health is excellent and I am active every day mostly by working outdoors and making it a point to stay busy as often as I can.

I can accredit my current physical shape and mental attitude as a result of the way I was raised. In my younger years I was always active in sports and I had the perfect body. I ran track, played basketball almost every day. Lifted weights, Ice skating and roller skating were also favorite pastimes and thanks to my MOM who is an exceptional cook believed in cooking fresh and always from scratch.

I imagine she learned these cooking skills from her old world upbringing. I loved the way she cooked her vegetables, it was a medley of color mixed with greens, purples and reds and a delicious homemade dressing. Yummmmm.

Our family devoured these delicious vegetable dishes without hesitation. My appetite was huge and I could never wait patiently until dinner was served.  Those were my early years, Mom made she sure we always ate well and what we ate was good healthy food. We weren’t big on snacks unless they were homemade. However, I did eat my share of candy? What kid hasn’t

Having come this far I can see now how beneficial this was for me. Being active in sports, eating healthy foods, getting a good night’s rest, enjoying the wholesome things in life was very big for me.

I do believe that eating the way our Mom cooked has a lot to do with the way you grow old. My Mom is 90 now and she stills moves along gracefully as one would expect from an old person. She is frail and moves slow. Age, however, does not hinder her bodily functions or her mobility. The way I feel now and the station in life to where I am is what enables my own testimony to be true and accurate.

In essence, together with my upbringing and current day lifestyle I discovered that eating well with healthy recipes, eating  home prepared  healthy meals, healthy cooking..Is the only way to live?

Eating healthy is a big factor in health benefits, but you won’t achieve the full benefit unless you exercise as well as being consistent in following a healthy eating plan.

Healthy eating is all about a conscious lifestyle, it’s actually very straightforward and easy and as I have grown older I have developed a sense of good stewardship in all that I do. I know now that by following this action my life will reap the benefits.
